CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS OF MODAL AUXILARIES IN SANGIHE LANGUAGE AND ENGLISH

Abstrak

Sangihe is often called Sangir and in the Philippines known as Sangil. Sangihe and Talaud islands are divided into two main groups: Sangihe, consisting of the islands great Sangihe, Siau, Tagulandang, and Biaro; and Talaud, consisting of the islands Karakelang, Salibabu, Kaburuan, Nanusa, Miangas and many other smaller ones. Each island has different dialect. There are various dialects in Sangihe. They are great Sangihe , Siau, Tagulandang, Biaro, Kawaluso, and Marore dialect. In addition, the dialect of Marore Island has similarity with Balut Saranggani , and some Sangil islands of Mindanao in the Philippines. Modal auxiliary in Sangihe language are Botonge,wotonge, Matamai, odong, hado, haruse and suharuse e. the function is the same with English but the different is in words form.
